Vergann LaShun Murray, age 75, of Augusta, passed away on Monday, February 16 at Unity Health-White County Medical Center in Searcy.
Vergann was born on July 25, 1950, in Fitzhugh, Arkansas to William Townsend Sr. and Bessie D. Gillespie-Townsend.
Affectionately known as "Verg" or "Polly" by her loved ones, she attended the Augusta Public School District. She graduated in 1968 from George Washington Carver High School in Augusta.
Vergann accepted Christ at a young age and became a member of New Holly Grove Baptist Church in Augusta. She was a resolute choir member and contributed her time to the kitchen committee as well as being the lead vocalist in the choir for several years.
Vergann worked as a CNA and caregiver for Absolute Home Healthcare for 21 years, retiring in 2019. She was also employed by Morrilton Plastics in Augusta for 5 years and worked at Chrysler Motors in St. Louis, Missouri during her time there.
Vergann was preceded in death by her parents, William Sr., and Bessie Townsend, as well as her siblings: Calvin Townsend, Marvin Townsend, Albert Townsend, Leotis Townsend, Erma Ward, Brenda Brown, Helen Heard, Zelma Ward, William Townsend Jr., and Elbert Townsend.
She is survived by sons Roland Murray of Augusta, AR; and Travis (De Ann) Murray of Irving, TX; daughter Lesia Murray (Floyd) McNeal of Brinkley, AR; grandchildren Channing Murray of San Antonio, TX, Cameron Harris of Searcy, AR; and Na'Kadia Murray of Austin, TX; great grandchildren Mila Harris of Jacksonville, FL; Carmen Harris and Camden Harris both of Stuttgart, AR; brothers Eugene Townsend and Jimmy Townsend both of Little Rock, AR; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family and friends.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 7 at 11:00AM at New Holly Grove Baptist Church, 501 Main Street in Augusta. Elder Roland Murray will serve as the eulogist. Interment will follow at New Quiet Cemetery North, 250 Woodruff County Road in Augusta. Arrangements are by C.J.
