Savannah Middleton Mayo

Savannah Middleton-Mayo, 83, of Holly Grove, passed away on Tuesday, June 9, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, Mississippi.

Savannah was born on February 13, 1943, in Curtis, Arkansas, to Willie Middleton and Pearlie Beatrice McGhee-Middleton.

Savannah accepted Christ at an early age and became a member at Spring Hill AME Church in Richmond Hill, Arkansas. After relocating to Holly Grove, she joined I John Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as the Youth Department Director and number of years.

Savannah affectionately known as "Tap" or "Sue" to her family and friends, received her formal education at Arkadelphia Public Schools. She graduated Peak High School in Arkadelphia in 1961. She went on to enroll in AM&N College in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, where she earned her undergraduate degree in Elementary Education in 1967. She then went on to earn a master's degree in Elementary Education in 1969 from Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Savannah was united in holy matrimony to Harry Mayo in September 1970, after relocating to Holly Grove to teach and live. They were the proud parents of three children.

Savannah worked as an Elementary School Teacher in the Holly Grove School District for 45 years plus until her retirement.

Her parents: Willie and Pearlie Middleton; siblings: Willie Middleton, Charles Middleton, Mae-Lois Bennett, and Deloris Walton, all preceded her in death.

Survivors are her husband of 55 years, Harry Mayo of Holly Grove, AR; her son Brandon Mayo of Douglasville, GA; two daughters: Latita (Juan) Bell and Harriet (Kendall) Bones both of Douglasville, GA; eleven grandchildren: Denzell Mayo, Tahlar Bones, Tahlen Grayson, Nyla Bones, Jahden Bell, Kyndall Bones, Bradan Neaves and Jakobi Bell all of Douglasville, GA; Elexi Bailey of Houston, TX, Maisyn Guillory of Dallas, TX; and Lionel Bates of St. Louis, MO; her sister Demetrica Mitchell of Palmdale, CA and her sister/friend: Carlee Bennett-Latham of Holly Grove, AR and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 20th at 3:00pm at Kingdom Builders Ministries, 400 North Pine Street in Holly Grove with Reverend Tommy Green serving as eulogist. Interment will be held at Mayo Cemetery, Highway 17 South in Holly Grove by C.J.
