Ruthie Mae Metcalf

November 21, 1931 — February 9, 2026

Ruthie Mae Metcalf, age 94, of DeValls Bluff, passed away on Monday morning, February 9, at Maple Healthcare Nursing Center in Hazen.

Born on November 21, 1931, in DeValls Bluff, Arkansas, Ruthie was the daughter of Marty Metcalf and Beatrice Tymmes-Metcalf.

Ruthie was a lifelong member of Union Chapel Freewill Baptist Church in DeValls Bluff. Throughout her years of dedicated service, she participated actively in many church organizations. She served as President of the Home Mission, was a member of the senior choir, Treasurer of the Honey Creek Association, a founding member of the Cheerful Rights gospel singers, a member of the Harmonizers gospel singers, and secretary of the Freewill Baptist Mission Association, among other church roles.

Ruthie attended the Biscoe Public School District and graduated in 1951 from Biscoe High School, becoming the first member of the Metcalf family to do so.

Ruthie worked for many years as a Domestic Engineer and was employed by families such as the Carters, Skardas, and Tolls until her retirement. She also worked as a cook at Murray's Café and Journey's Inn Café, both located in DeValls Bluff.

Ruthie was preceded in death by her grandson Robert Metcalf; her parents, Marty, and Beatrice Metcalf; and her siblings, Grant Metcalf Sr., Sephronia Metcalf Pike, Joe Wade Metcalf, Nathaniel Metcalf, Veronie Metcalf, and Benjamin Metcalf.

She is survived by her daughter Edith (Charles) Larkin of DeValls Bluff, AR; her bonus son Larry (Linda) Adkins Sr. of DeValls Bluff, AR; her grandson Allan Larkin of Sherwood, AR; bonus granddaughter Karen Adkins of North Little Rock, AR; great-grandchildren Anthony Metcalf of San Marcos, TX, and India Metcalf of Mesquite, TX; her sister Eula Ray Huff of DeValls Bluff, AR; and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.

A public viewing will be held on Saturday morning, February 14, from 10 AM until 11 AM. Funeral services will begin at 11 AM at Union Chapel Freewill Baptist Church, 5009 Metcalf Newsome Road in DeValls Bluff, with Bishop Sylvester Swanigan as the eulogist. Interment will follow at Oakland Cemetery in DeValls Bluff, under the direction of C.J. Williams Funeral Directors and Cremations of Brinkley (870) 589-5036 and Stuttgart (870) 672-7100.
