Queen Esther Walker, 81, of Hazen, passed away on Tuesday, August 11, at Chamber Health and Rehab Center in Carlisle.
Queen was born August 17, 1944 in Biscoe, Arkansas to Jimmy Payne and Melen Saxton-Payne. She was the second child of ten children born to this union.
Queen received her education from the Biscoe Public School System. She was a 1962 graduate of Biscoe High School.
Queen married Luther Walker in September 1962. To this union six children were born. He would precede her in death in 2017 after 55 years of marriage.
Queen worked as a seamstress for Kellwood Industries in Lonoke for more than 15 years before they ceased operations in the area. She also worked for Care Link as a Home Health Care Aide for several years before retiring.
Queen was a long-time co-owner of Walker's Lounge in Hazen for many years before its closing due to her husband's failing health.
Queen enjoyed sewing, cooking, and especially cooking baked goods. She enjoyed watching daytime soap operas and taking care of her husband, family and her siblings.
Her husband Luther Walker, her parents: Jimmy Payne and Helen Payne; Siblings: Quince Ella Cohen, Mary Lou Payne, Jimmy Louis Payne, Jerry Payne, Bessie Scott, Carrie Harris, Rudeen Payne, Bertha Payne and Johnnie Payne all preceded Queen in death.
Survivors are: three sons: Joe (Romonda) Walker of North Little Rock, AR; Artis Walker of Austin, TX and Mario (Akasha) Walker of White Hall, AR; three daughters: Joyce Walker of Little Rock, AR; Sandra Walker of Hazen, AR and Kirby Walker of Glenn Heights, TX; grandchildren: Krystle Walker of Little Rock, AR; Ahsley Jones of Carrollton, TX; John Walker of Lancaster, TX; Robin Carroll of Little Rock, AR; Payton Carroll of North Little Rock, AR; Janesha Walker of North Little Rock, AR; Jordan Walker and Bianca Walker both of Austin, TX; Koby Walker of North Little Rock, AR; Jaylen Walker of New Orleans, LA; Marquise Minor and Amari Walker both of Arkansas and Ke'Shaun Walker of Glenn Heights, TX, five great grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
A visitation will be held on Friday evening, August 21 from 6 until 8 PM at Prairie Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, 411 East Washington Street in Hazen, Arkansas. Funeral services will be held on Saturday morning, August 22 at 10 AM at Prairie Chapel Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Maurice Williams serving as eulogist. Interment will take place at Green Grove Cemetery in Hazen by C.J.
