Nudy Farmer Jr.

Nudy Famer Jr., 79 of Searcy, passed away on Thursday evening, August 6 at the Arkansas Heart Hospital in Little Rock.

"Coach Farmer" as Nudy was affectionately known, was born July 20, 1947 in Batesville, Arkansas to Nudy Farmer Sr. and Bernice Barris-Farmer.

Nudy was a member of the Searcy Church of Christ, where he served as a church elder and was a faithful member. He had former been a member of the Downtown Church of Christ in Searcy and Northside Church of Christ in Augusta, where he served as a Youth Leader.

Nudy received his education from the McCrory Public School system. He was a 1966 graduate of Brown/Williams High School in McCrory, Arkansas.

Nudy was employed with the Union Pacific Railroad for more than 25 years until he retired in 1992. He had previously been employed with Royal Shoe Factory in McCrory. He had also worked as a school bus driver for Harding University and Harding Academy in Searcy.

Nudy was united in holy matrimony to Lisa Buirts in September 1988.

Nudy volunteered as am member of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) for 15 years, the United Way of White County for 2 years, and worked as a custodian for AR Division of Workforce Services for 5 years.

Coach Farmer as he was affectionately known was an avid McCrory Jaguar and Dallas Cowboys fan. He had a great passion for sports, either coaching, refereeing, watching ESPN Sprots or attending a game. As a hobby he began coaching coed softball in the 1970's. Years later he began coaching a men league basketball team consisting of men from across Central Arkansas. He was so determined to teach young people to have a positive attitude and to take their skills to the top level. He began coaching boys and girls AAU Basketball.

His parents Nudy Farmer Sr. and Bernice Farmer; a brother Willie Farmer, a sister Annette Farmer all preceded Nudy in death.

Survivors are: wife of 39 years Lisa Farmer of Searcy, AR; 2 sons Steve Farmer and Travis Woodruff (Demetrus) both of Jonesboro, AR ;seven daughters: Albertina Farmer of Aurora, CO , Andrea (Steven) Dittrich of Rochester, MN; Felicia Minton, Demtrius Paskel and Sharonda (Keith) Jakes all of Jacksonville, AR ; Tiarra Smith of Searcy, AR; Ciarra McDonald of Conway, AR ; and Taeisha (Tim) Tyson of Sherwood, AR; 14 grandchildren; 4 brothers; Mitchell (Elizabeth) Farmer of Searcy, AR; Jackie (Martha) Farmer of Beebe, AR; Jan Farmer of Stockton CA; Steve (Marshell) Farmer of McKinney, TX; Special brothers - The Kittrells; 2 sister Clara (Renard) Robinson of Newport, AR; and Virginia (Ray) Bradley of Augusta, AR; aunt Mildred Hampton of Chicago, IL; his mother in law Glorice Buirts of Augusta, AR and a host nephews, nieces, cousins, in-laws and friends.

A viewing will be held on Saturday, August 15 from 2 PM until 3 PM at the Downtown Church of Christ, 900 North Main Street in Searcy. Funeral services will begin promptly at 3 PM with Dr. Paul Pollard serving as eulogist. Interment will take place at New Quiet Cemetery in Augusta by C.J.
