Meacher Ray Peten

Meacher Ray "Michael" Peten, 65 of Augusta, passed away on Wednesday, December 10 at The Crossings at Riverside Rehab Center in Searcy.

Meacher was born on February 17, 1960 in Augusta, Arkansas to Ulysess Peten and Betty Jean Webb.

Meacher accepted Christ at an early age and joined Harris Chapel Baptist Church in Augusta.

Meacher received his education from the Augusta Public Schools system, where he was incredibly involved in extracurricular activities like football, basketball, and track . He was a 1978 graduate of Augusta High School.

After graduating high school, Meacher enlisted into the United State Navy in 1979, where he served until 1984 and received an honorable discharge. While serving in the military, he worked as a helicopter mechanic and was stationed into Philippines, Hawaii and San Diego, California.

After being discharged from the military, Meacher moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma to live and he also found employment as a helicopter mechanic. After a while, he transferred into Trucking as a permanent career choice. He was a long-haul truck driver. He enjoyed driving coast to coast loads for the companies he worked for throughout the years.

His parents Ulysess Peten and Betty Jean Webb; and two brothers George and John all preceded Meacher in death.

Survivors are: April (Allen) Henderson of Hernando, MS; Staci (Cecil) Baker of Higginson, AR and Jada Peten of St. Louis, MO; grandchildren: Davonte', Shuntae, LaMarcus, Derrick, Tevin, Allycen; great grandchildren; Hailey, Janiyah, Kenley, Kasien, Kandanyce, Kaylee, Harper and Arianna; brothers: Gerry Peten, Timothy Peten and Terry (Belinda) Peten; Sisters: Carol Tabron, Mildred Webb, Wanda Peten Clark, and Tammy Peten; an aunt Helen Peten Davis and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 20 at 2:00 PM at Harris Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, 509 North 12th Street in Augusta with Pastor Lamar Wright serving as eulogist. Interment will take place at Harris Chapel Cemetery in Augusta by C.J.
