Marilyn Jo Poindexter, 67, of Augusta passed away on Friday, August 9 at Unity Health White County Medical Center in Searcy.
Marilyn was born on July 22, 1957, in McCrory, Arkansas to Woodrow Simmons and Ruth Simmons.
Marilyn received her education from the Augusta High School District. She was a proud graduate of Augusta High School Class of 1976.
Marilyn was a faithful member of the St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church in Augusta for more than 50 years. She joined in 1969 under the leadership of Reverend Levi G. Davis. During her time there she served as the church clerk, secretary of the Usher Board, member of the senior choir and missionary. She was also a member of the gospel singing group "Frank Haggans' Sound of Joy" for several years.
Marilyn was united in holy matrimony to Henry L. Poindexter Sr. on December 2, 1983.
In her earlier years "Jo" or "Buck" as she was affectionately known she was with American Greetings in McCrory, where she worked for 27 years before retiring in 2003 after the plants closing. She started out as a power truck operator, a clerk in the front office and finally a dispatcher.
Her two sons: Edward V. Simmons and Henry L. Poindexter Jr.; her parents: Williams W and Ruth Simmons; her siblings: Ruby N Kittrell, Opal Turner, and James Simmons, all proceeded Marilyn in death.
Survivors are her: husband of 40 years Henry L. Poindexter of Augusta, AR; a son: Otis Y. (Christie) Poindexter of Nashville, TN; god son: Edward V. (Nicole) Tripp of Jacksonville, FL; one daughter Marilyn (Lucy) Hall of Nashville, TN; ; twelve grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren; four brothers: Kin (Dale) Xuxa of Orlando, FL; David (Christina) Simmons of Yipsilanti, MI; Daniel (Frances) Clark of Union Chapel, AR and Leon Walls of McCrory, AR; a brother in law: Harrison Kittrell of Augusta, AR; three sisters: Mary Cotton of Michigan City, IN; Jacqueline Poole of Augusta, AR;. and Rubylene Brown of McCrory, AR and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 17, at 3:00 PM at St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church, 422 Mulberry Street in Augusta with Reverend Jesse Booker serving as Eulogist.
