Leon Johnson, 86 of Clarendon, Passed away on Thursday, July 18, at CHI St. Vincent Infirmary Medical Center, Little Rock.
Leon was born May 29, 1938 in Ulm, Arkansas to Andrew Johnson Sr. and Ida Walker Johnson. He was the youngest of 10 children.
Leon received his early education from the Clarendon Public School system. He attended G.W. Carver High School.
Leon was a lifelong member of Liberty Missionary Baptist Church in Casscoe, where he served as the Chairman of the Deacon, Board, member of the Finance Committee, member of the Kitchen Committee and Cemetery Sexton.
After high school, Leon moved to Chicago where he lived for several years before returning to Arkansas. After returning to Arkansas to help take care of his mother, he went to work at Riceland Foods and retired after 25 years before retiring in 1993. He went on to do custodial work for First Baptist Church in Clarendon for many years until his health failed.
Leon was united in holy matrimony to Earnestine Threets December 11, 1987.
His parents Andrew and Ida Johnson nine siblings: Augusta Bowman, Otis Johnson, Hanley Johnson, Cleo Williams, Wanda Scaife, Earlene Wilson, C.D. Johnson, Andrew Johnson Jr. and O.D. Burton all preceded Leon in death.
Survivors are his wife of 37 years, Earnestine Threets- Johnson, their children Yulonda (Chris) Curlett of Clarendon, AR; Theodore R. (Naomi) Daniels of Lemore, CA; Crystal Daniels of McKinney, TX and Terrance (Melinda) Daniels of New York, NY; his special goddaughters: Parlee Threets of Oakland, CA and Lolita Knox of Clarendon, AR; twelve grandchildren: De'Andre, Erin, Jordan, Kayla, Jalen, Jaxson, Grayson, Kamoree, Bryson, Tank, Michael and Karis; four great grandchildren: Airynn, Austin, Roman and Eterniti; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation will take place on Friday evening, July 26, from 5 Until 7 PM at First Baptist Church, 224 Washington Street in Clarendon. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 26 at 3:00 PM at First Baptist Church in Clarendon.
