Johnny Lee McDonald Sr., 68 of Newport, passed away on Tuesday, July 22 at his home in Newport following a brief illness.
Johnny was born May 11, 1957 in Newport, Arkansas to Jessie Lee Heard and Henrietta McDonald.
Johnny was a faithful member of the Fifth Street Church of Christ in Newport for more than 20 years.
Johnny received his early education from the Newport Public School System. He was a proud 1975 graduate of Newport High School. He went on to attend the Newport Vo-Tech School ( ASU -Newport).
"Monk Lee" as Johnny was affectionately known, was employed by the Newport Housing Authority in Newport for more than 32 years, where he spent most of those years as the Maintenance Supervisor before retiring in 2017.
Johnny was united in holy matrimony to Reba Rowe in 1977. To this union two sons were born.
His son: Spencer Cooper, his parents: Jessie Lee Heard and Henrietta McDonald; his brother Jessie Lee McDonald; two sisters Helen McDonald and Gertrude McDonald all preceded Johnny in death.
Survivors are: his wife of 48 years Reba McDonald of Newport, AR; three sons: Johnny (Nasheas) McDonald Jr. of Jacksonville, AR; Timmy McDonald of Jonesboro, AR and Stephen Cooper of Little Rock, AR; his daughter Dana Nevels of Dallas, TX; 10 grandchildren; his mother in law, Ida B. Briscoe of Augusta, AR; two special nieces: Phyllis Robertson and Starr Williams both of Jonesboro, AR and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 2 from 1 until 2 PM at Fifth Street Church of Christ, 403 5th Street in Newport. Funeral services will begin promptly at 2 PM with Bro. Harold Young serving as eulogist. Interment will take place at Mount Zion Cemetery in Newport (Shoffner Community) by C.J.
