Jessie Mae Bailey, age 81, of Biscoe, Arkansas, and formerly of Chicago, Illinois, passed away on Wednesday, March 18 at Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock, Arkansas.
Born on March 7, 1945, in DeValls Bluff, Arkansas, Jessie was the daughter and eldest child born to Jessie Geans and Essie Mae Sanders-Geans. Affectionately called "Chicken" and known by many other nicknames among family and friends, Jessie received her formal education through the Biscoe Public School District.
Jessie embraced her faith at a young age, being baptized at Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church in Biscoe. After relocating to Chicago, she became a devoted member of One Lord One Faith Missionary Baptist Church, where she served faithfully for more than fifteen years.
In 1963, Jessie was united in marriage to George Sanders Bailey. Although their marriage ended, they remained committed to their daughter and grandson.
Jessie dedicated herself to the healthcare field, working as a Nurse's Aide at St. Joseph Hospital in Chicago, Illinois for thirty-six years, until her retirement in 2001.
Jessie was preceded in death by her parents, Jessie Geans and Essie Mae Geans, as well as siblings Geraldine Geans, Mary Williams, Willie Geans, Addie Geans, Jack Geans, and Jessie Geans.
She is survived by her daughter Elaine (John, Sr.) Green of Bellwood, Illinois; grandsons John Green Jr. of Bellwood, IL, and Jaron J. Green of Chicago, IL; brothers Henry (Rosa) Geans of Bellwood, IL, and Johnny Geans of Maywood, IL; sisters Octavia (Fred) White of DeKalb, MS, Allean (Bobby Sr.) Bonds and Christine Dunlap both of Biscoe, AR; Wyoma (Gregory) Metcalf and Darlene (Steve) Cohen both of DeValls Bluff, AR; Barbara Bonds and Nicole Geans both of Lonoke, AR; two aunts: Janie Sanders and Addie (Joe) Chocolate both of Chicago, IL and many nephews, nieces, cousins, other family, and friends.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 28 at 11:00 AM at Union Chapel Freewill Baptist Church, 5009 South Metcalf Newsome Road in DeValls Bluff, with Pastor Darrell Foster serving as eulogist. Interment will follow at Harrison Cemetery in Biscoe, under the care of C.J. Williams Funeral Directors and Cremations of Brinkley (870) 589-5036 and Stuttgart (870) 672-7100.
