Jesse Jones, 82 of Plano, Texas, formerly of Cotton Plant, passed away on Wednesday, July 16 at his home.
Jesse was born May 4, 1943 in Cotton Plant, Arkansas to Richard Jones Sr. and Katie Wilson-Jones. He was one of fourteen children born to this union.
After returning to Arkansas in 2007, Jesse reunited with Ash Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Cotton Plant under the leadership of Reverend Odell Haggans. As a child growing up at Ash Grove, Reverend W.L. Martin had baptized him at the age of 12. While living in New Jersey, he became a member of Second Baptist Church in Rohway, New Jesey under the leadership of Reverend Ealey, where he remained a faithful member until he returned to Arkansas.
Jesse received his education from the Cotton Plant Public School System. He was a 1963 graduate of Cotton Plant Vocational High School.
Jesse was drafted into the United States Army in 1967 during the Vietnam Era. He received an honorable discharge in 1969.
While living in New York and New Jersey, Jessie worked as a truck driver for more than 40 plus years. He drove for Shop Rite Food Stores for 15 years before retiring in 2007.
His parents Richard and Katie Jones: his siblings: Richard Jones Jr., Mattie Jones, Barbara Cannon, Hattie Kelly, James Jones, Edward Jones Sr., Veotis Clay, Walter Jones, Early Jones, Eddie Lee Jones, and Daniel Jones all preceded Jesse in death.
Survivors are his daughter Jeanelle Jones of Plano, TX, his brother Johnny Jones of Chicago, IL and a sister Beatrice Powell of Chicago, IL and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday evening, July 29 from 5 PM until 7 PM at C.J. Williams Funeral Directors Chapel, 124 South Main Avenue in Brinkley. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 30 at 9 AM at Ash Grove Missionary Baptist Church, 114 McMurtry Street in Cotton Plant with Reverend Odell Haggans officiating. Interment will take place at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery, 1501 West Maryland Avenue in North Little Rock on Wednesday July 30 at 12 PN Noon by C.J.
