I Beauty Smith

IBeauty Smith, 91 of Goodwin, passed away on Monday August 24 at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee following a brief illness.

Mother Smith was born on February 20, 1935, in Goodwin, Arkansas, to the late Frank James Smith and Luella McKissick Smith. She was the third of seventeen children.

Mother Smith accepted Christ at an early age. She later received the Holy Ghost at William Temple Church of God in Christ (COGIC) under the leadership of Elder J.W. Williams. She attended Goodwin COGIC and later became a faithful member of Nineveh Temple COGIC, where she supported her brother, Elder Howard Smith, in his ministry.

Throughout her years of service, Mother Smith served the church and its members in many capacities. She was a devoted member of the Usher Board, Hospitality Ministry, Pastor's Aide, and Missionary Circle. She was also a faithful supporter of the youths and lovingly served as a Church Mother.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank James and Luella Smith; two sisters, Josephine (Charles) Gray and Lula Smith; five brothers, Albert, Bennie, Henry, Howard, and Alex J. Smith; and three sisters-in-love; Addie, Theressa, and Betty Smith.

Survivors are her son, Lester (Linda) Jennings of Jurupa Valley, CA; a special daughter, JoAnne Jennings of Forrest City, AR; two grandchildren, Lionel (Antoinette) Jennings of Compton, CA, and Leslie (Allen) Parker of Decatur, GA; and two great-grandchildren, Malek and Allen; five brothers: Ransom Smith of Goodwin, AR; Taylor (Elaine) Smith of Austin, TX; Wilson (Carmelita) Smith of Little Rock, AR; Jessie Smith of Arlington, TN; and Oliver (Zenna) Smith of Forrest City, AR; one sister, Phillis (Richard) Gines of Greensboro, NC; and five sisters-in-love, Lillian, Armelia, Evelyn, Melvie Smith, and Clinton Walden. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A visitation will be held on Friday evening, September 4 from 5 PM until 7 PM

at Victory Temple Church of God in Christ 1433 Whitaker Street in Forrest City. Funeral services will be held on Saturday morning, September 5 at 10 AM at Victory Temple Church of God in Christ in Forrest City with Superintendent Oliver Smith serving as eulogist. Interment will take place at Goodwin Memorial Cemetery in Goodwin by C.J.
