Geraldine Smith, age 78, of Brinkley, Arkansas, passed away on Friday, February 20, at her daughter's home in Forrest City after a brief illness.
Geraldine was born on December 20, 1947, in Brinkley, Arkansas, to Melvin Holiday Sr. and Dora Vance Holiday. She attended Brinkley Public Schools as well as Marian Anderson High School.
From an early age, Geraldine accepted Christ and became a member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Brinkley, Arkansas. She remained a faithful and resolute member throughout her life.
In August 1967, Geraldine was united in matrimony to Kinnie Smith. Together, they raised five children.
Geraldine dedicated her professional life to caring for others as a Certified Nurse Assistant. She worked for Cla-Clif Nursing and Rehab Center for 30 years until her retirement in 2002.
Geraldine was preceded in death by her son, Mark Smith; her parents, Melvin, and Dora Holiday; and her siblings: Valentine Durham, Mary Ann Clay, Early Holiday, Patricia Thomas, and Finney Holiday.
She is survived by her husband, Kinnie Smith of Brinkley, Arkansas; her son, Phillip (Ruiko) Smith of Springfield, Virginia; and her daughters: Karen (Derrick) Smith of Brinkley, Arkansas, Sheila Smith of Houston, Texas, Keshia (Lonely) Chirwa of Forrest City, Arkansas, and Loretta (Leford) Williams of Leesburg, Florida. Geraldine is also survived by her goddaughter, Brenda K. (Bruce) Murry of Forrest City, Arkansas; twelve grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; brothers: Melvin (Helen) Holiday of Colt, Arkansas, San (Florence) Holiday, Calvin (Jennifer) Holiday, and Tony (Cecelia) Holiday, all of Brinkley, Arkansas; sister: Irene (Marvin) Privett of Little Rock, Arkansas; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family and friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday evening, March 6, from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM at C.J. Williams Funeral Directors Chapel, located at 124 S. Main St. in Brinkley. Funeral services will take place on Saturday, March 7, at 2:30 PM at St. Paul Full Gospel Church, 509 Emmons Ave. in Brinkley, with Reverend Damon McMillion serving as the eulogist. Interment will follow at St. John Cemetery on Bauer Road in Brinkley. Arrangements are entrusted to C.J.
