Freda Kay Whitfield

Freda Kay Whitfield, 69 of Augusta, passed away on Sunday morning, November 30 at Unity Health Medical Center in Searcy.

Freda was born on March 8, 1956 in Little Rock, Arkansas to Robert Hall and Erma Hagwood.

Freda was a member of Ward Chapel Church in Augusta for more than 36 years, where she sang in the church choir. She had previously been a lifelong member of St. Paul AME Church in Gregory until its closing in the late 1980's. She had also been regularly attending Walnut Grove Missionary Baptist Church also in Gregory.

Freda received her education from the Augusta Public School system. She was a 1974 graduate of Augusta High School. She also received formal training as a Certified Nurses' Assistant.

Freda was a long-time employee of St. Francis Developmental Center in Augusta before its closing.

Her son Derrick Barnhart, her father Robert Hall, and her sister Varnetta Benton all preceded Freda in death.

Survivors are: two sons: Arthur Whitfield of Augusta, AR and Bobby Whitfield of Searcy, AR; her granddaughter Londa K Whitfield of Searcy, AR; her goddaughter Natasha Bryson of Cotton Plant, AR; her mother Erma Hagwood of Harvey, IL; two brothers: Shurron Hagwood and Tywon Hagwood both of Milwaukee, WI her sister Venika Richardson of Chicago, IL; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday afternoon, December 13 at 2:00 PM at Holy Ghost Academy Church of God in Christ, 927 South 4th Street in Augusta with Reverend Gary Browning serving as eulogist. Interment will take place at Buckeye Cemetery, 2654 Woodruff 874 in Augusta (Gregory Community) by C.J,.
