Dorothy Jean Stidum, aged 70, of Forrest City and formerly of Palestine, passed away on Tuesday, February 10 at St. Bernard's Medical Center in Jonesboro.
Dorothy was born February 27, 1955, in Palestine, Arkansas, to Charley Stidum and Odessia Sheppard-Stidum.
Dorothy received her education from the Wheatley Public School system. She went on to earn her GED and attended Cosmetology School in Memphis, Tennessee, where she earned her certification and a license to style hair.
Growing up in Palestine, Dorothy attended Union Hill Missionary Baptist Church with her family. Throughout her adult years, she continued to visit the church on occasion.
Dorothy was employed with the Wyrick/Sanyo corporation in Forrest City for more than 25 years until the company's closure. She then worked in home healthcare for the Greenleaf Home Healthcare organization in Forrest City for a few years. Additionally, she was employed at Dixie Foods distributors in Forrest City and worked as a hair stylist in several salons over the years.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her companion of many years, Fredrick Smith; her parents, Charley and Odessia Stidum; her brother, Wayne Stidum; and her sisters, Maxine Stidum and Mattie B. Stidum.
She is survived by her daughter, Jessica Smith of Forrest City, AR; her son, Justin Smith of Forrest City, AR; brothers: Larry (Pauline) Stidum of Sanford, AZ; Danny Clay Stidum of Palestine, AR; Terry (Dora) Stidum of Cleveland, OH; and Allen (Melcine) Stidum of Marianna, AR; sisters: Charlie Stidum-House, Norma Lee Stidum-Gray, and Pamela (Gordon) Stidum-McCoy, all of Forrest City, AR, and Deborah Stidum of Palestine, AR; her uncle, Marvin Sheppard of Forrest City, AR; two aunts: Alvernies Gribble and Mattie Sheppard, both of Memphis, TN; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
A visitation will be held on Friday evening, February 20, from 5 until 7 PM at C.J. Williams Funeral Directors Chapel, 124 South Main Street in Brinkley. Funeral services will be held on Saturday afternoon February 21 at 2:30 PM at C.J. Williams Funeral Directors Chapel in Brinkley. Interment will take place at Forrest Park Cemetery, Highway 1 South in Forrest City, by C.J. Williams Funeral Directors and Cremations of Brinkley (870) 589-5036 and Stuttgart (870) 672-7100.
