Dorothy Celestine Neal, 64, of Augusta, passed away on Friday , May 29, peacefully in her home surrounded by loved ones.
Dorothy was born on July 8, 1961, in Newport, Arkansas to her parents Anderson Neal Sr. and Theressa Gant-Neal.
Dorothy accepted Christ at an early age and was a lifelong member of Lake Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Augusta, AR., where she served as the Sunday School Secretary and as a member of the Usher Board.
Dorothy affectionately known as "Dot" to her family and friends got her formal education at Augusta High School where she engaged in gymnastics and track and was a part of the graduating class of 1979. She went on to attend college at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro. She received a CDA (Child Development Association) for Pre School Education.
Dorothy worked as a Teacher's Aide (Paraprofessional) in the Augusta School District, for more than 38 years until her retirement in 2024. She also worked for the Woodruff County Polls during elections for many years.
Her parents Anderson Neal Sr. and Theressa Neal as well as her sister Beverly Neal Floyd preceded Dorothy in death.
Her survivors are her brothers: Robert (Julia) Neal of Burlington, NC., Gerald (Gwendolyn) Neal of Olive Branch, MS., Anderson (Nancy) Neal Jr. of Texarkana, AR., Stephen (Donna) Neal Sr. of Memphis, TN., Dr. Arthur Neal of Little Rock, AR., and Fernell (Pamela) Neal of Pine Bluff, AR.; sisters: Lavern Smith of Chicago, IL., Arlene Neal Maxwell of Memphis, TN., Elsie (John) Chestnutt of Augusta, AR., and Vera N. Dockery of Bartlett, TN.; aunt: Stella Gant of St. Louis, MO. and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 5th at 5:00 PM Lake Grove Missionary Baptist Church, 1208 Highway 33 North in Augusta. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 6th at 11:00 AM at Holy Ghost Academy Church of God in Christ, 927 South 4th Street in Augusta with Pastor Calvin Wright serving as Eulogist. Interment will be at New Quiet Cemetery in Augusta by C.J.
