Deloris Brown, age 82, of Augusta, passed away on Saturday, January 17, at her home in Augusta.
Deloris was born on April 9, 1943, in Augusta, Arkansas, to Will H. Raspberry and Mary Ada Davis. She was raised in Augusta and attended Augusta Public Schools. Deloris graduated from Carver High School in Augusta in 1962.
After high school, Deloris moved to Chicago and lived there from 1966 to 1974. During her time in Chicago, she married Charles Gillespie, and together they had three children: Eric, Bobby, and Latonya. Fondly known as "Lois" by her family and friends, Deloris worked at the Van Heusen Shirt Factory in Augusta. She later married Jesse Brown.
Deloris was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Brown; her granddaughter, Ashley Gillespie; her parents, Mary Ada Davis, and Will Henry Raspberry; and her siblings: George Hernton, Robert Lee Hernton, Jimmie Lee Heard, Tommie Heard, and Marce Lee Tripp.
Deloris is survived by her sons: Eric Gillespie of Augusta, AR, and Bobby (Luegina) Gillespie of Searcy, AR; her daughter, Latonya Gillespie Tripp of Searcy, AR; three grandchildren: Saquilla Gillespie of Kensett, AR, Bobby Lewis Gillespie Jr. of Dallas, TX, and Prentis Jones of Wynne, AR; sixteen great-grandchildren; three brothers: Morris D. Hernton of St. Louis, MO, Michael Ray (Alicia H.) Davis of Kansas City, KS, and Freddie Heard of Augusta, AR; her sister, Hallie Clark of Kansas City, MO; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday morning, January 31, at 11:00 AM at Holy Ghost Academy Church of God in Christ, located at 927 South 4th Street in Augusta. Pastor Eric Cox will serve as eulogist. Interment will follow at New Quiet Cemetery-North in Augusta.
