Bertha Mae Culp Jones, 77 of Little Rock, passed away on Monday morning November 10 in Little Rock.
"Toni" as Bertha was lovingly known, was born April 20, 1948 in Monroe, Arkansas Clarence A. Culp Sr., and Hattie Mae Culp.
Bertha was a member of Church at Gaines Street in Little Rock for several years under the leadership of Pastor J. Barrington Minix. She had previously been a member at St. John Missiinary Baptist Church also in Little Rock, where she served as a part of the Grief ministry. While living in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, she was a longtime member of Bethel AME Church, where she as the Director of the Young People's Department and member of the Missionary Society. She was also a faithful member of Bible Study International.
Bertha received her education from the Clarendon Public Schools. She was a 1965 graduate of George Washington Carver High School. She went on the continue her education by attending AM&N College in Pin Bluff where she earned a bachelor's degree. She also earned a master's degree from Southern University in Baton Rouge.
Bertha was an Educator in Public Education and gainfully employed by Glasgow Elementary School in Baton Rouge and McKinley Middle Magnet School both in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She had also been employed by Northwestern Middle School and Zachary Middle School in Zachary, LA. She enjoyed her career as an educator.
Bertha was the widow of the late Dr. Dewitt Jones PhD, whom she married in December 1968.
Her husband Dr. Dewitt Jones, PhD; her parents; Clarence Culp Sr. and Hattie Culp; Her brother Clarence Culp Jr. all preceded Bertha in death.
Survivors are her son: Andre' Jones of Baton Rouge, LA; her daughter Shari Jones of Celina, TX; grandchildren: Danielle Jone and Andre Jones Jr. both of Baton Rouge, LA; and DreMetria Jones of Rayville, LA; greatgrandchildren: Tamyah Jones, Tylasia Reynolds, Josiah Jones, Joshua Reynolds, Micah Potts and Macavion Potts all of Rayville, LA: Omari Dawson of Baton Rouge, LA; brothers: James Culp of Marianna, AR, Robert (Mable) Culp of Monroe, AR, Frank (Fronia) Culp of San Antonio, TX; sisters: Irene Wyrick of West Memphis, AR, Christina Culp, Bernice Perkins both of Little Rock, AR, Diana (Paul) Culp-Walton of Brinkley, AR, and a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday morning, November 15 at 11 AM at the Church at Gaines Street, 1601 South Gaines Street in Little Rock with Reverend J. Barrington Minix serving as eulogist. Interment will take place at Baines Cemetery, Smale Road in Monroe by C.J.
